How To Decide If You Need Root Canal Therapy

June 18, 2015

Tooth ache help! Root canal therapy from HIll Avenue Family DentalWhen teeth become damaged or lost, it will impair the function of your mouth. It’s not great for your self-image, either. To improve both the use and look of your smile, talk to the staff at Hill Avenue Dental about our available restorative dentistry treatments. Both Drs. Doug Clark are experienced in providing viable dentistry solutions for their patients, and our staff is ready to welcome you to our Superior, WI practice.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure that involves removing diseased pulp tissue from the interior of a tooth. Bacteria and additional infections can occur resulting in a painful toothache. Nobody likes a toothache, especially our Drs. Clark which is why a root canal procedure is often necessary to alleviate discomfort. The procedure begins with tooth disinfection and the removal of all debris (nerve tissue, lymph tissue, blood tissue, bacteria and infection) from the coronal pump chamber and its associated canals. Once an affected tooth’s canals are sufficiently cleaned and shaped, they are filled with materials designed to prevent pain and infection from recurring.

“How Do I know If I Need A Root Canal?”

The human mouth is a complex and interconnected network of sensitive tissue and bone. As is the case with any complex system, it’s prone to breaking down if it is neglected. We want you functioning on the healthiest levels and root canal therapy will help in that department. Not all toothaches are created equal. Root canal treatment is recommended if any of the following symptoms persist:

  • Minimal to severe pain
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Swelling & irritation in the surrounding gum tissue
  • Signs of infection visible on a radiograph

Remember to consult with our staff and Drs. Doug Clark Jr and Doug Clark III before making any decisions. Our team of dedicated professionals will run through all of your options before coming to a final decision. Getting early treatment is important and we want you to full understand the procedure before coming to a decision.
