Your smile is one of the first things that people notice about you—so you better believe that it’s the first thing your Valentine’s Day date will notice! That said, you should be sure that your pearly whites look and feel their absolute best so that you’re confident, desirable, and healthy! Here are some tips from your dentist that will ensure your smile is as healthy, bright, and kissable as possible this Valentine’s Day.

Practice Excellent Oral Hygiene

Your oral hygiene routine is paramount when it comes to protecting your smile and ensuring that it looks beautiful, so you need to be sure you’re getting the job done at home. You should be brushing twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush coupled with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and using an antibacterial mouthwash regularly. A cleaner mouth is much more pleasant to kiss—not to mention, cavities can be contagious!

Cut Out Smoking & Other Bad Habits

Smoking is notoriously one of the worst oral habits you can partake in, as cigarettes and tobacco products are responsible for a slew of oral health issues that will compromise the look and feel of your smile, including aesthetic issues like staining and bad breath that can leave a foul taste in your partner’s mouth after a kiss. Other bad habits you should eliminate include nail-biting and using your teeth as tools, as this can potentially damage your smile and harm its image. Lastly, you should also refrain from sharing toothbrushes with your partner, as this is a surefire way to spread potentially harmful oral bacteria.

Visit Your Dentist

Even if you practice excellent hygiene at home, your dentist is still the best person to ensure that no matter what happens, your smile is healthy and beautiful. By scheduling regular preventive care, you’re giving them the chance to inspect your mouth for underlying health issues like gum disease that might cause bad breath and make you unpleasant to kiss. They can also ensure that your teeth look as attractive as possible whenever you grin at your date.

By following these tips, you’ll make certain that this Valentine’s Day is a great one that’ll have you smiling non-stop!
